Afternoon all.
Lengthier piece coming later today or tomorrow on how shit esports gambling markets are. Thought I’d just slide in with an earlier little tid-bit.
For now, just a small update on everyone’s new favourite gambling regulator: Twitch.
Two of the +More Media publications today have touched on Twitch’s banning of additional crypto casinos being streamed.
A smaller… (or maybe bigger) point slipped in just underneath was an update to Twitch Community Guidelines.
The update bans sponsorship of “skins gambling”. It’s vague as you’d like, and absolutely stinks of Twitch just noticing more recent hubub around skin betting.
Are they banning the broadcast of skin gambling? Or just the sponsorship and affiliate world of directing to these market places?
Either way, most CS:GO s streamers that are not very good at the game are sponsored by these faux-casinos so it’ll likely have a big old impact should it be policed properly.
What about FUT points?
What about Dota skins?
What about Roblox thingy majiggys?
More questions than answers at the moment, but if it proves to be a streaming ban on opening lootboxes it’ll have far wider ramifications.
For now, buckle up and let’s see if anything actually changes or happens.
